Up for sale is a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR. This is a single owner vehicle that has never been smoked in nor in any accident. It is a VIN matching car meaning every VIN sticker on all the body parts match. If you are looking at this car then you know everything about it probably. You've probably wanted one ever since you set eyes on it. It's turbocharged two liter engine coupled to it's AWD drivetrain make this a true enthusiasts car! So every car has a story. Some stories are sad. Others are fantastic. All I know is I can tell you the story of this car as I know it. However, before I do that, you should probably know a little bit about me so that the story makes sense. My name is Greg. Once upon a time I owned an automotive performance business that specialized in one manufacturer. If you guessed Mitsubishi, you would be correct. I was in business for about a decade and I finally got to the point I got burnt out. Before I closed my doors, I've had the honor of building a tremendous amount of EVOs for customers located in the Greater Washington DC area. I have a little bit of a pedigree. I've been involved with multiple championship winning builds over the years from SCCA to NASA (road racing where it's at, not drag since this is an EVO!). I "retired" about two years ago. So what does this have to do with the story of this car? Well, on the side I've bought and flipped quite a number of EVOs over the years. Some of you crazy kids aren't too easy on these guys and then you got in too deep for one reason or another and you end up bailing on a broken car. That's the story of this guy. I've actually had this EVO X MR since 2016, the last year my shop was open. One of the local EVO owners was in a bind and needed some cash. He has a sad story with this EVO because somehow he just had bad luck. He bought this car new and the first four years were a love affair. Sometime in 2012 is where his problems started to happen. I can't recall the exact reason why, but his motor popped. He had a bearing failure on the OEM engine and he took it to some engine rebuild place that was located near him. (Disclaimer: I have not worked on this car until I purchased it from him but being one of the local EVO shops, the owner consulted with me various times throughout his ordeals.) He had some issues with the rebuilt engine at the time and consulted with me via phone about it. I'm not sure what the exact outcome of his issues was but I know it must have been good enough as he was driving the car regularly. Fast forward to April of 2014 and while launching the car he damages a shift fork in the trans and has a transfer case issue. He took the car to Moore Automotive in Fairfax, VA who was another local EVO shop to have them rebuild the SST. The SST trans came out and went to Kosmic Motorsports for one of their slightly upgraded rebuilds. At the same time a brand new transfer case was installed in the vehicle. He dropped over $11k (See attached invoice image) to get his car back. I was told by the owner that while the car was "idling" in the parking lot of Moore, the engine started to knock again. What happened there I don't know and I don't even care to speculate as long story short it doesn't matter. What I do know is that after blowing $11k to get the SST transmission rebuilt and to purchase a new transfer case, he had to have the car towed home. He simply did not have the funds to repair the engine yet again. So the car sat at his house for two years and he had the full intention of getting her fixed. However we all know how real life can sometimes disrupt our plans. After being laid off he found himself needing some money. He put the car up for sale in an inoperable condition so I reached out to him and purchased the vehicle from him to repair and resell. I bought the vehicle from him sometime in May of 2016. I had the car towed to my shop and we pulled the engine out. I purchased a used good condition short block with 25k miles through my parts network. I used one of my EVO X core cylinder heads (have you looked at my other items on Ebay?) with the short block. That cylinder head had been ultrasonically cleaned, decked for flatness and gone through. I used a different cylinder head because the original head showed signs of wear on the cam journals from bearing material floating through the oiling system. Speaking of the oiling system, I junked the oil cooler that was on the vehicle (that come to find out had never been replaced when the original engine lost a bearing years prior, gee maybe that's why this one let go?). I installed an oil cooler that had 1,500 miles on it and came off a car that was wrecked I had parted out a year or two before. Don't worry, the oil cooler survived that thing like a champ with no damage and so did the driver! While at it, I didn't trust the turbo so I replaced that as well with a good used unit I had from an upgrade done for another customer. In a nutshell, I replaced the entire long block / turbo combination with quality used parts and new gaskets, fluids, etc. The AYC pump had failed because well, they like to fail due to their location. There was a recall on it so I trailered the car over to the local dealership (King Mitsubishi Gaithersburg, MD) and had them replace the AYC pump on the car under warranty. The original owner hadn't really done many performance mods to the car other than a few bolt-ons but he did do some aesthetics. He did install Megan lowering springs which I have since replaced with original MR Eibach springs. The car was mostly completed but my time ran out before I was totally done with her. I shut down my business at the end of 2016 and I moved 1,500 miles away. So I did what any red blooded American would do and bought a 3 car trailer and towed this and other cars with me down to TX. The car has sat at my mother's house for the last two years as I've been quite busy developing my property and really haven't had the time or the work area to get her ready to sell. Well the time is now at hand. I am technically the second owner of the vehicle but I am simply reselling it and the vehicle still has the original signed title ready to transfer to the legitimate second owner. There are no liens on the vehicle and it has a clean title with no accidents. All VIN tags on the body panels of the car are matching. I've gone over the car to make sure it's in great mechanical shape. However the years of sitting, being transported via tow truck or trailer, etc have taken their toll on some of the body parts. The front bumper cover in particular has a fair number of scratches and defects in it. I will not lie, it could stand to be refinished. It does not need replacing but it could totally use a light sanding and a respray. The rest of the car is in pretty good shape except for one area around the drivers side rear door near window. There are also some scratches in that location of unknown origin and the rear wing also has a few scratches. The tires on the car were replaced shortly before the transmission gave out. They have x/32 of tread. The brakes work well and there is lots of pad life left. The rotors show remnants of the rust created by sitting for so long but a little more driving will clear it up. All fluids are fresh in the vehicle. The car will sparkle once someone puts some TLC on the body panels with some carnuba car was and an nice detail. All I've done is give the car a good bath, nothing more for the pictures. There are still a few cosmetic alterations that the original owner performed that I was unable to revert to stock because acquiring the OEM part honestly wasn't worth the expense. This would include the hood scoop. There is an aftermarket carbon fiber unit installed. The clear coat on it has begun to peel a bit. This could be restored, replaced with OEM or simply left alone, all depending on the buyer's preference. The shift knob is aftermarket. I like it. I left it. The owner decided that he was going to spruce the appearance of the car up a bit and he gave it some accents. You can most notably see it with the matching painted hood vents, aftermarket vortex generator on the roof, and the accented tail lights that are shrouded like eye lids to match the contour of the car. I decided that I would leave the Ralliart mud flaps. I mean it's where an EVO belongs right? In the dirt?.. :D Under the hood is an adjustable dual recirculation and vent to atmosphere diverter / blow off valve. It's made by Turbosmart. Everything else under the hood is stock including the boost control. The car is on the factory map. I've replaced one of the inner fender liners and the car still has a complete plastic undertray. The battery is new, both the one in the car and also the one in the remote. Oh, I only have one remote. The brand new transfercase is NOT installed in this vehicle. The 1,500 mile tcase I had from the road racing car that got wrecked is what is in this car and I resold the new transfer case. Just being perfectly honest. Either way, it's still basically a new tcase! The interior is in good shape for it's age. You can tell that most of the wear is just in the driver's seat and it's not even a lot. Overall this car was well cared for until it had it's series of unfortunate events that I had to rescue it from. This is a quality vehicle and very low mileage for it's age. These cars are holding their value and I think my asking price even with the recognition that the body is not in perfect condition is fair. The car is located in the 76033 zip code.
